Moving in Together: Tips to Combine Two Households

Moving in togetherBy Julie DeLong, A-1 Freeman Moving Group

Opting to move in together is a major step. It's one which shouldn't be taken flippantly (or completed without a great deal of thinking). Both parties have to sit down to discuss everything in advance of when they take that step. As a professional moving company in San Antonio, we understand that despite having a plan, it isn't always easy to combine two households into one.

Follow this advice to help you both get ready for the next phase.

Be sure that it's the proper time. Unfortunately, there isn't any timeline that says when the correct time is for a couple to move in together. It will depend on how both sides are feeling. Both of you need to be on a similar page prior to deciding to join your houses.

Figure out the place where you prefer to live. While it's simpler to move into one person's residence, for many couples, it is advisable to start over in a new location. Doing this, it will always seem like home to each of you, rather than his (or her) place.

If you opt to move into one person's residence, will the other person be at ease enough to make changes? Anytime anyone moves into the other person's residence, they may wish to make it feel more like their place by bringing in their unique household furniture and moving several things around to make a place for their belongings. The other individual needs to be in a position to sacrifice and allow the other one to make these changes so both persons will be happy in their new house.

Don't rush when sorting through your things. When combining two households, you are likely to have sufficient things for your new (or existing house). Perhaps you are going to have not one but two beds, a couple of sofas, and a lot of blankets. You will likely both have kitchen and bathroom stuff.

You will not require double of everything in your new spot, and that means you are going to need to plod through everything to evaluate which you will keep and what you intend to sell or give away. Certain sentimental items will need to remain but you may grovel to choose what home furnishings you should keep. You might need to make that call based on which is in better shape or even the one that may integrate into your home better.

You need not be reluctant to investigate storage. Should you be truly unable to determine what to keep and get rid of, you might need to lease a storage area for the present time. This could also be of help if you plan on moving into a bigger property in the longer term. You may need the additional bed for company when you are all set to buy your next home. You may want to keep a few of your sentimental things in storage until you have got your man cave or she shack.

Talk about finances early on. It is important to take a look at finances before you decide to move in together. You might want to get a joint checking account in order to team up to pay for the bills.

However, it may work better if you divide up the bills, having one person take care of the rent, while the other covers the electric, water, and other bills. Both of you must be satisfied with how you will pay for your expenses before you take the next step.

Prior to deciding to move in together, you need to take the time and really discuss it. You need to make sure that it is the best time for both of you. Additionally you must determine if you are intending to live in one person's place or commence fresh with your new property. Then, it's time to go through your things. Obtain a moving company in San Antonio to assist and rent a storage locker if you are struggling with whose stuff to keep.

Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
